We will spend the next two days to understand our own family immigration stories.  You are tasked with interviewing at least one person in your family to understand their (or their understanding) of what brought you to Basalt today.

Some questions you need to ask include:

  • Where did they immigrate from?  When?
  • What port of entry did they come to (Ellis Island, Angel Island, Tijuana, etc)?
  • Did they come by themselves or with other family members?
  • Why did they leave?  What did they hope for in Basalt/America?
  • Did they need to leave anything behind to get here?  What?
  • Were there any obstacles when they got to the USA?
What other questions do you have?

You will need to put this information into a small poster/presentation/family tree to share.
